I don't write poetry but

I tried to write a fiction

about celebrities and death.

With characters and paragraphs but

I can’t

because

it seems

your brain has begun

to take on a wrinkled appearance because of its rapid growth

and the wrinkles are called convolutions and a convoluted brain

contains more brain cells than a smooth, nonconvoluted brain

and is

potentially

more

powerful.

And.

You may have a callous on your thumb.

You can register information from all five of your senses.

Your toenails are fully formed. Your head grows,

your brain pushes out and folds in on itself.

Eyelashes. Fingernails. Controlled body temperature. Muscle tone.

New fat. Smooth skin. More hair. Brain waves.

Your brain your brain you have a brain.

Your iris, your eye, beginning to respond

to the intensity of light, to the sight of less light

Opening under dim circumstances,

closing under bright.

You are practicing looking.

Soon you will see—

there is a difference.

And should you need to,

you can breathe air.

And that is all I need to know

today.

wait, this is poetry. i just read your entire blog cause i was missing you so hard. i saw the pictures of all those rad t-shirts your mom saved and the little red shoes and your looong nails and ivy's new room. wow. i am very pro positive non freaked out attitude about pregnancy. i think you should erase all forms of doubt from your mind. this is magical and we are all witnessing it. also i felt relieved when i read all those tips. i thought i could just scan them for now but i knew, as i was reading, that the day would come when i'd be looking for those words again. i will be so thankful that you took the time to do this. very simple things seem like the most beautiful thing in the world when i see them through your eyes. love.
